Texas Tech announces two major gifts from Cargill and Teys Australia

The food safety experts in the Texas Tech University Department of Animal and Food Sciences have earned a reputation worldwide for their expertise in developing safe practices to the food industry and helping developing nations to enhance and secure their food supply. The department houses the International Center for Food Industry and Excellence (ICFIE), a collaborative effort between the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources and the College of Human Sciences to emphasize food safety, value-added processing, nutrition and outreach and education.  more »

AFS’s Brad Johnson chosen for UN, WHO Food Additives Safety Committee

Brad Johnson, Texas Tech University’s Gordon W. Davis Regent’s Chair in Meat Science and Muscle Biology, has been selected to a five-year term on a prestigious committee that evaluates the safety of food additives. The Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) is a collection of international food safety experts from around the world that not only ensures the safety of food additives but also includes evaluating contaminants, naturally occurring toxicants and residues of veterinary drugs in food.  more »
